The Building Futures for Youth (BFY) program is the result of a partnership between the Construction Association of Nova Scotia, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, and the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency.

The program provides a summer employment opportunity for students interested in or curious about a career in the construction trades.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in grade 10 or 11 in Nova Scotia, reach the age of 16 by May 1st, 2025 and be available for employment during the months of July and August (schedules can include day/week/evening work).

-Complete the following application and upload your resume and cover letter to this page. Due the last day of school before holiday break, December 20th, 2024

-Obtain two references, one from a teacher (English/French) and the other from a community member (English/French). Reference forms can be found at https://www.buildingfutures.ca/students/.
References should be emailed to agilbert@cans.ns.ca or treddick@cans.ns.ca by the last day of school before exams, January 24, 2025.

  Attendance and participation in all mandatory components is required to successfully complete the Building Futures for Youth program
   
  All eligible students who submit a completed application will be offered the chance to proceed to the interview process. If accepted, additional paperwork will be required.
   
  All BFY program components (including CANS staff correspondence, workshops and training) will be delivered in English.
   
  Participants are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to/from their summer workplace.
   
  Best attempts will be made to match students to employers with the shortest commute possible, but job placements are dependent on employer availability within your Regional Centre of Education/Board.
